Please take a moment to participate in my poll (see the right side of my blog-page) on the graphics-card/driver combination you run your main gnome-system on. Thanks in advance!

The poll don’t want me to vote, so I will spam your blog:
1) main station - Matrox G550, Xorg driver
2) laptop - Intel

The "Polls archive" link in the bottom of the results succeeds with 404

ATI Radeon 9600 ("ATI Technologies Inc RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9 600 M10]") running with opensource ATI "radeon" driver release 6.6.3, under X.org 7.1.1.

@ zdzichu: Well, I cannot put every possible (read: remotely likely) combination in this poll. There’s the last vote-option, for other combinations and people are free to comment on this blog-entry. Aside form that I do not have the time and resources to do a full industry-strength market-analysis.
@ plaes: Fixed.
@ Thomas: Just selecting "ati-based using closed source driver" and hitting the Vote-button would have been sufficient.

I’d happily use the opensource nVidia driver if it could support usdualhead mode

Notebook: ati with either fglrx or radeon driver (depends; radeon driver isn’t yet 100%, and sometimes locks up, but fglrx is guaranteed to lock up under predictable circumstances). I should mention, however, that the wife’s PC is intel with Free driver. I selected ati with closed source, since it’s what I use when I want to play 3D games.

@ simplisticton: It would not surprise me if the capable and diligent people behind the nouveau-project might offer this feature in their new driver at some point. Of course such a reverse-engineering effort can always use more man-power… if you belong to the bit-twisting part of the population join them
I’m looking forward to their fruits of labor.

Poll does not seem to work.
Desktop: nvidia-based closed-source
Laptop (main system): ati-based open-source

My laptop Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 doesn’t work well with opensource drivers (or I don’t know how make it work), now it works with Xgl and Beryl and I love it. Waiting for the opengraphics project [2]to success(Imagine doing whatever you want with a graphic card hardware ,as in free software.

Hi
The nouveau driver will be somewhat similar to the current radeon driver? i.e with full 3d acceleration for older cards? I had a pc with a gforce 6600gt. The fan failed and I had to buy an ati x1600xt. It’s impossible to buy a 9600 radeon or an older nvidia card for pci express, so new computers aren’t going to get any befits. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to see such effort, but it will always be "behind schedule". If only intel could sell stand alone graphics cards…
On another note, since you were at the uds-mtv, what was the rumour about ati/amd releasing specs?
thanks

@ Michael Gauthier: I believe you need to have cookies enabled for this poll WordPress-plugin to work properly.
@ anonim: No one form AMD/ATI showed up at the Ubuntu Developer Summit 2006. Mark invited folks from intel, nvidia and AMD/ATI. But only folks from intel and nvidia showed up. Thus nothing regarding the rumour of AMD/ATI releasing specs could neither be directly verfied nor denied.

I would point out, of course, that your poll will likely exhibit signs both of self-selection bias and (more importantly) of bias towards the preferences of the people who read your weblog as opposed to general GNU/Linux users. I suspect your blog, in addition to the audience of people interested in graphical innovation in general, gets a higher percentage of the "what do I have to install to get shiny bling" type of user.

@ Anonymous: Indeed you are right that the poll will only provide a biased result. But it’s impossible for me to do a proper "neutral" poll. For a more unbiased result a poll like this should be made directly on p.g.o (or better still a more general gnome-centric site, e.g. http://www.gnome.org)

Out of curiosity, why are you taking this poll?
November 28th, 2006 at 7:17 pm
The poll will not allow more than one vote:
Home Desktop: ati open source
Laptop: ati open source
Work Desktop (counted in the poll): intel open source
All running gnome+compiz.
November 28th, 2006 at 8:06 pm
Not sure if I am the only one who can’t see any link to actually vote in the poll.
Desktop - ATI Radeon 7000, open source drivers
Laptop - Intel, open source drivers.

Hi
I just wanted to say thanks for uploading cairo-clock to feisty, and well can I request gnome dock? http://www.gnome-dock.org/
Since you were involved in it I don’t know a better person to ask
thanks

I voted Nvidia closed source but i’m not happy about this situation and - off topic - i don’t want binary drivers in my distribution by default. Have a nice day.

@ anonim: Karl Lattimer took over my cairo-dock stuff. You can reach him here -> http://www.qdh.org.uk

Proprietary ATI drivers for an ATI X700 (notebook) here.

Well, I didn’t meant missing poll option, but totally missing poll. It displayed bars with results, not option to choose. But your new poll works OK
December 4th, 2006 at 5:26 pm
@ zdzichu: Just reload my blog http://macslow.thepimp.net and you will see both polls ready to voting on the upper right.
