Being spam-saint blessed

Thanks to whoever tinkered with my RSS-feed and injected that viagra spam. Now I’ve to stay up all night and update the WordPress installation. There is nothing more enjoyable in by boring life, I can assure you that! Your skillful efforts help me keeping me away from from spending my nugatory time working on Ubuntu.

Should you ever encounter me in real life and happen to be such a saint, who writes or uses this of spam-boon, please identify yourself as such to me. I’ll tear out your spine, ripp off your head and s**t in your throat … while burning the rest of you alive! You think talk is cheap … I hear you. Try me!

So you use work/paid time to clean your personal weblog’s spam? Hope your manager does not read this :-)

  2. MacSlow Says:

@Alberto: No certainly not. I am sitting here at 3 o’clock in the night (again) finishing recently surfaced work things. The intensity is just mad! I’ve stopped counting overtime … actually only "getting it done" counts IMO. In that setting seeing this spam issue is just too much. I feel like a ticking bomb right now. David knows that work comes first in my world.

Hi MacSlow — nice to see you’re still about and hacking away on things.

If you haven’t already, you might want to have a look at wp-SpamFree (http://www.hybrid6.com/webgeek/plugins/wp-spamfree) if you’re looking for a way of de-spamming your website.

Works far better than I expected, gets updated all the time and is far better than eliminating comment spam piece-by-piece.

@Paul: Right now I’m using Akismet. I hope that will protect me better from now on.

It’s worth thinking of using wordpress.com with your own domain. I guess they take care of this stuff for you. Also, I use dreamhost and they make it very easy to update wordpress and some other popular apps.

While I understand your frustration, please refrain from using such violent language. Many people read your blog (through Planet Gnome), and I think this sends out a rather uncivilized message…

  7. Alberto Ruiz Says:

Yeah, when stuff like this gets in your way to get things done is really, really annoying.

Spam-hackers that waste multiple hours of our time to make a quick buck deserve to be beaten. First most of Usenet was made unbearable, and soon the rest of the internet will be a cesspool of losers trying to rip off other losers.

Wordpress *is* buggy and not very carefully written. I would recommend Serendipity for your own server and Wordpress only when hosted on wordpress.com because they take care of security for you.

I’ve heard Viagra can keep you up all night…

  11. MacSlow Says:

@ Danny: Haha, very funny ;)
