vomit to the power of n (for n =1..infinity)

This is some super terrific crap to happen. My normal email-provider just shut off my account without any kind of notice. Bloody bastards at Aruba! Until further notice I won’t be reachable via my normal eMail-address: macslow at bangang dot de.

I know that there are free email-services, but all the @gmail.com, @gmx.net, @hotmail.com etc. are just not cutting it for appeal comparing it to the famous @bangang.de.

With the email-service also our martial-art-groups website www.bangang.de died. And yes, fees for the email/web-hosting services were payed in time.

I feel like hurting someone responsible in Italy now!!!

EDIT: For the time being you can now reach me via macslow at gmail dot com. This will be for the period until bangang.de and my normal email-address is active again at a new hoster.

I’m an italian reader of your blog, and, as italian, i’m very sorry for this issue. In Italy, if you ask to someone (that have a minimum of web experience) about Aruba, the standard reply is "It sucks!!!!!"

  2. MacSlow Says:

@ Massimiliano: Well, I just learned this the hard way :)

  3. dave Says:

Have you looked into Google Apps for your domain? Sounds exactly what you need:

Well, aruba also collaborated to autistici.org crackdown ( http://www.autistici.org/ai/crackdown/comunicato_en_220605.html ), violating any basic privacy principle. Aruba sucks!!! even technically.
    ciao

P.S. wow captcha is hard to read even for a human ;)

  5. Benni Says:

Why did you host it in italy anyway?

  6. MacSlow Says:

@ dave: Hm… got to think about it.

@ kysucix: What an awful story, Aruba really seem to be some crappy web-service shop. May they burn in hell! BTW, sorry for the nasty captcha :)

@ Benni: At banGang we’re all poor students and try so save money where ever we can. Aruba seemed to be a good and cost-effective solution.

They shouldn’t mess with you martial arts experts.

  8. Justyn Says:

I think you can use Gmail with your own domain for free with "Google Apps for your domain Standard" or something.
Here’s someone talking about it: http://www.cleverdude.com/articles/how-to/how-to-3-ways-to-use-gmail-for-your-other-email-accounts/

Mirco, you’ve just described my current situation:
Vomit to the power of n: that’s what I did all this morning. I may have catched a gastroenteritis :-(
So as you see, your situation could be worse :-)

  10. isazi Says:

Yeah, aruba sucks, i have a domain registered with them and they, really sweet peoples, suspended the service before it expire, only to be sure that i’ll pay in time.

  11. Murray Cumming Says:

As ever, I can highly recommend dreamhost. They are way better and cheaper than anything I’ve found in Europe.

  12. Karl Lattimer Says:

MacSlow, I needed to get in touch with you anyway, i found it strange that you hadn’t replied to my most recent email.

The company I work for has generously offered to host your site, and email services for free on our colo server. In the UK on redbus.

Get in touch somehow, and we’ll work out the details, then I can finally get a response and reaction to the code I’ve been working on.

    ;)

  13. Marco Barisione Says:

Aruba is known to be cheap but unreliable. Some years ago Aruba was criticized by Italian IT community because too tolerant towards spammers, the standard answer to abuse reports was "vaffanculo" ("fuck you").

My site is hosted by unixshell.com, the nice thing is that they give you a xen virtual machine.

Your captcha is nearly unreadable :)

  14. Thomas Thurman Says:

You know that if you use gmail.com, you can ask it to spoof mail so it appears to come from any domain you like?

  15. hardskinone Says:

Aruba sucks. You can ask Autistici.org [1] for hosting your sruffs. It’s a donation based, free as speech hoster.

  16. Tristan Rhodes Says:

I also recommend Google Apps for your Domain. You can keep your same domain name, but the email is hosted by Google just like Gmail! 50 accounts for free. It is a really sweet setup.

  17. MacSlow Says:

@ Murray Cumming: Thanks for the tip. But Karl’s offer is certainly preferable for us banGang-folks :)

@ Karl Lattimer: That offer sounds great! We would be very happy if you could host our beloved bangang.de site and our @bangang.de email-addresses! If you want to reach me this is currently best done via IM or IRC. Have a look at my page at live.gnome.org for contact details.

@ Marco Barisione: I tried a few captchas… they were not that hard to read.

@ Thomas Thurman: But this only works one-way (for sending), does it not? It would not allow an email addressed at macslow at bangang dot de to reach my gmail account, or would it?

  18. X-Drum Says:

Dear friend i’m italian and here in italy Aruba is considered one of the worst hosting providers ever seen…
yes is cheaper than others but is not new to this kind of *problems* :\

(i’m using a dedicated server for this reason)

anyway sorry for this i hope that you can solve your problems with this "provider" asap

    keep up the good job!!
